United States Wrestling Association was an American professional wrestling promotion formed in 1989 through the merger of the Continental Wrestling Association and the World Class Wrestling Association. The company primarily operated in the southern United States and carried on the traditions of classic territorial wrestling. USWA was especially shaped by the work of Jerry Jarrett and stars such as Jerry Lawler, who became the face of the promotion for many years. The company was known for intense regional rivalries, strong character work, and a traditional wrestling style. It also served as an important stepping stone for many future WWE and WCW stars early in their careers. Today, USWA is regarded as one of the last major territory promotions before the wrestling industry fully transitioned into the national era of the 1990s.
